Please forgive the lack of posting. I am hoping to catch back up soon. But, for now let me tell you about a holiday that I have had the joy of celebrating the last two years and that i will probably take with me if/when I leave this wonderful place.
St. Nicolas day is technically tomorrow on the 6th of December, but since we don't have school on Saturdays, much to several of my students shagrin, we celebrated today. We had all of the students and teachers put their indoor shoes outside the classrooms. The excitement that was in the air about St. Nicolas coming made my heart smile.
This morning some of the teachers went around and filled the shoes with chocolate and a clementine. Most of the time nuts would be included, but we have a student with severe allergies to nuts. The kids didn't miss them though. The smiles and excitement as they arrived to school to find their full shoes was like Christmas morning.
Later the whole school met for chapel where we sang Christmas Carols and decorated our school Christmas Tree. While the teachers were putting on the last of the ornaments the students were on the green chanting out our names like we were at some huge sporting event. It was completely silly!
I've attached a photo of me and Delynn in our opposite attire for 'Spirit of Christmas Day'. There is also a picture of most of the school gathered for the caroling time.
